99 Savage 308
Had a great day!
Besides taking my 7 YO out to the range and him repeatedly saying, "Dad, just five ore rounds?", ten times in a row, I finally shot my 99.
I got this in trade about a year or so ago for some work I did. I finally scoped it this moring with a Leupold 2-7. Then, I loaded up some 150 grain Failsafes I had over 44.0 gr RL15 and headed off to the range. I was rewarded with a nice 1" group at 100 yds. Found my new piggie gun.

I'm not too versed in the various 99 models but this one is a pre-tang safety lightweight I believe.
My others are a .300 EG and a .22 HP takedown. All are stellar shooters. the TD came with a weaver 440 scope mounted in a Stith Mount. Being as the Stith prevents taking down the rifle, it is tight as a drum and shoots liek it.

<Andrew cempa>I have one too. 99F, with lever safety. Quite accurate and well balanced for quick shooting.

richjMine likes Horn 168 and Ar-comp 40-41gr. Very accurate and it's a later clip gun. 6x vortex tops it off.

Atkinsonyou have a 1950s 99F in .308..The best rifle savage ever made IMO...I have one and it shoots one inch every time but I had to glass bed it. I use RL-15 also. I like the 180 Corelokts or the 150 gr. Nosler partitions for elk, and the 150 Nosler Bal. tips and 150 or 165 Hornadys for deer..

joesterA great rifle/cartridge combo, I love mine. Hard to get used to the safety, though...

foxhoundGot lucky. Got a 50's 300 Sav. 99F with both lever safety and custom tang safety, best of both worlds for an old shotgunner like me. Wish it was a 358 though......

z1rI really like my .300. Mine is an EG with a Redfield receiver sight. Love it. Unfortunately, open sights have a limited utility for me. Thus, the reason I also acquired the .308 which I can scope.

N E 450 No2A Savage 99 is one of those rifles I have always wanted, just never got one.
It would have to be a 308. Nothing at all wrong with a 300 Savage, I just have a lot of 308 loading "stuff".
The perfect one for me would be the lightest, slimmest Model 99 in takedown, they ever made, in 308 of course...
I almost bought one of the Commeratives, a Canadian one I think. It was pretty slim and trim.
Just how well on average do the 308 Mod 99's shoot?
