Took the Sako to the range
Haven't shot this in years. Hornady Whitetail loads. Irons at 50yds.

Looking good, Rich. Lucky if I can shoot irons that well anymore!

Nice rifle and nice shooting. Plenty fine for deer.

I could not read the cartridge name on the ammo box. What caliber is it?

And with an honest-to-goodness Sako aperture sight!

Awesome!

Nice-looking rifle, Rich. The only other of them I've ever come across (except in ads) had been broken at the wrist and restored with a fibreglass bandage. Can't say I'm a fan of the Sako peepsight, though - too much tunnel vision to be much good for hunting.

Nice rifle. Traded a BLR plus $100 for a NIB Finnwolf .243 with the factory peep still wrapped in wax paper. It had a $275 price sticker on it and the paperwork from the PX at the base in Germany where it was bought. Couldn’t bring myself to shoot it so sold it for a nice profit. Haven’t seen one since

Sadly, I have to agree with your appraisal of the Sako aperture: it seems that it was designed for the range and doesn't allow enough light for field conditions.

What sort of dovetails do you have on the receiver, Mark?

If you would like a better hunting aperture, just in case your dovetails are in any way comparable with the ones on my Sako L61R, you could look to a brand called AO (the logo is an A in a circle).

Couldn't find it online just now but this sight looks similar:

It appears AO is XS now.

Is there a better factory production rifle than Sako?
