O.K. So now tell me what's wrong with Weaver rings?
I've used them for about 40 years.
Don't they work anymore?
Seriously, there are lots of prettier mounting systems, but none significantly better.
Looking for a nice vintage scope for a '99 myself.

I have never used them myself. As always, if you were to ask 10 people if they like something there will always be a few that hate it for some obscure reason. I have been told by both gunsmiths that I frequent that the Weaver rings are less stable during installation and that they have a tendancy to scratch the finish of a scope. Does this make them worthless? No. As I said, I am just repeating what I have been told. You have mentioned that you have used them successfully. What do you like about the Weaver rings?
