Which one is better,stronger,more collector value?

I am assuming you are talking about the M71 Winchester chambered in .348. The M71 had better springs, the most modern steels at the time and from all that I have seen they were finished and machined for fit better than the 1886. The standard grade M71 now seems to go for a minimum of around $1100 and the deluxe for about double that.
1886, depending on caliber, configuration, etc. go for around $750 up to mid 5 figures.
The M71 was only offered in 348 Win., although I believe there two made in 45-70. I had a nice M71 and it was one of the guns I really regret selling.

The 1886 is the classic big Winchester lever gun. Many consider this fine rifle Winchester's best. These rifles are very collectable, and will comand a premium if one is to purchase one with any condition at all. Chambered from .33 W.C.F. to .50/110. The stronger ones were made for "smokeless powder", and a usually found in the extra lightwieght, and lightwieght models. .45/70,.45/90, and any of the big .50's will increase the value of this rifle. The 71 Winchester is a modern verion of the 1886. This gun chambered in the .348 W.C.F., and very rarely found in .33 W.C.F, as well as .45/70 is also a very fine rifle. Carbines bring a premium, but beware of fakes! Either of these fine rifles would be a sound choice for the collector. Do your homework before you purchase-Knowlegde is power!

The lockup on the 71 is different as is the tang on later rifles. The stock deminsions were also different on the 71. Better steel was used in the 71, The 71 is argueably an upgraded 86, a fact which I doubt, more likely cheaper to build.

At one of the gunsmith's guild shows a few years ago there was a gent who was building .45 and .50 rifles on M71s. He told me that the Japanese clones were better than the Winchesters. He particularly noted that the Japanese rifles would function upside down and the WRAs usually wouldn't. We did not get into when it was necessary to shoot standing on your head.
