crsheltonCongratulations on the .405.
I have two similar 1895s in .405 (a looker and a TD shooter)and my shooter has become my favorite big bore field rifle.
Post a picture when you get the rifle.

jkingrphI got a couple a few years back, a standard and high grade (coin receiver animal gold inlays) and very good wood, as a special order. I had only requested the standard but the dealer, a friend order both in hopes of only getting one and wound up with both, which I bought

N E 450 No2I have an 1895 in 405.
It is a Takedown.
I used to think an 1886 was the best lever ever.
And they are still great.
I had read all the stuff, over the years, about how the 1895 was akward, ill ballanced, and that the 405 was painful to shoot...
But after I shot an 1895 in 405, I knew I had to have one.
I was on a road trip, so I called my local gunstore, as I knew thay had one, and I told them to hold it for me. I stopped by and bought it before I even went home.
I really like it. I think IT, esecially in 405 WCF, is the best lever rifle on the Planet.

cal pappasGents:
The .405 is a great lever rifle and the only Winchester that had any impact on Africa or India. (The .50-110 and .50-95 did, but less so it seems). I had four before being bitten my the double rifle bug. If any of you .405 men out there need anything, I have 20 rounds of new brass, dies, and two shell holders for sale at a good price--50$. I found them in the back of a drawer a while ago.
Cheers,all
Cal

dgr416I have shot my 405 winchester around 100 times already.I used Nosler 210 gr and 50 grs of aa1680 .It blows gallon water jugs to pieces.I love shooting off the deck and reloading right inside.I only have 50 pcs of brass so far .I need to anneal some to make them last longer.Who makes the 400 gr bullets for this gun.Barnes told me I could use the same powder and loads as the 45-70 poder wise and pressure wise.I have a ton of aa1680 I use it in my 375 winchesters .I found loads for reloader 15 also my favorite powder. This gun is too much fun.I may have to buy anotherone so i dont wear this one out!!!!

tetonkaDo some research on RL #7, I like it and it is my first choice of powder now. I'm shooting 300 grain Woodleighs and North Forks at 2500 fps and 360-400 grain at aroun 2200. An awasome round. Hogs die on the spot. Who says this ain't a ture medium big bore that can't handle the big nastys. Shoot straight and enjoy your Teddy R. favorite calibre.
