I have two lever guns I am thinking of selling, but have no idea of their value.

The first is an early Savage 99 in .303 Savage. When I bought it used in 1947 it had a crescent butt plate, but I later replaced the rear stock with one with a flatter plate. I have the Weaver 2.5x scope with post reticle that I bought new for it in 1954.

The other is a Model 64 Winchester .30-30. My father bought it used in about 1945.

Both rifles were well used but not abused. They have the usual dings and bumps, and lack bluing where they were carried.

I also have a model 99 Savage in .250-3000 that was given to me, but someone cut off the end of the barrel with a hacksaw and shortened the stock, apparently to modify it for a youngster.

I understand it is impossible to give a firm estimate without photos, etc. but I would appreciate a rough price range for these rifles.

Go to 24hourcampfire.com and ask your question in the Savage Collectors forum. These guys live and breath 99's! It seems like any 99 these days goes for at least $350 and up, but they will know rarity of models, caliber, deductions for changes to original condition etc.

As far as the 64, try leverguns.com. Again a wealth of information. I see most 64's going for $500 and up. But as you know condition plays a
big part.

Which Model 64 are we talking about? There are three that I know of not counting caliber.
you said 30-30 so here's what i think they should go for.The deluxe version with checkering and original sling and swivels, probably about $600 median price. The standard non deluxe (no checkering or sling swivels)about $400 in the middle price range. It all depends on condition. Prices based on what I've seen in the last couple of gun shows.
Sometime in the mid 1970s, Winchester brought out another version of the M64 that frankly I thought looked like hell. The stock was IMHO a bastardization of the original which was designed by Col. Townsend Whelen BTW. I haven't a clue on value for that one.

I apologize for not answering sooner, but I've been in the hospital. The Model 64 is the standard non-deluxe without checkering. My father bought it used in about 1945. Its condition is fair to good, I believe. Thank you for responding.

I have an unaltered Savage 99EG of 1937 vintage I paid $650 for it last year from the original owner. It has a tang sight otherwise stock.

Bill: Can't help with value, but all three of those rifles have long, useful lives ahead of them. For those who appreciate the .30 WCF, the 64 is just about the most elegant platform it ever had, and wonderfully accurate, assuming a good bore. I am sure you will find good homes for them.

Based on your post I would put the Savage at about $350 to $400 and the 64 at about the same...

Well used is not a very good description, the changing of the stock devalues the Savage greatly unless you still have the original stock and any well used 64 is only a shooter as its not a collector..Hard to value guns without looking at them. Guns are like coins, condition is everything to the collector and shooters don't bring much.

I would be interested in the 64 for just a hunting rifle if you want to sell it send me a picture.
