Winchester 1895 TD in 405 WCF Ready for Australia

N E 450 No2Winchester 1895 TD in 405 WCF Ready for Australia
Well I have my 1895 Winchester Take Down ready for the Land Down Under, and also for Africa and even Jurassic Park...

I have had this rifle for a few years, and already had it shooting factory Hornady 300gr, and my reloads with the Hornady 300gr bullet and reloads with the North Fork 300gr Soft in the same place at 100 yards.
I have killed 2 deer with the factory Hornady load and 2 deer with the North Fork bullet, as well as a coyote, and I even killed a couple of turkey with it.
To get ready for Australia I mounted a Williams Reciever sight, with a Merit adjustable apperature, and then developed a load with the 300gr North Fork Flat point Solid, that hits the same place as my other loads, at 100 yards.
The Williams Reciever sight has worked out Perfectly. I highly recommend it.
I plan on shootng it a few more days, most all off hand, with some kneeling, doing high speed reloading drills, and getting use to working the lever, working the rifle.
My goal is to get as good at shooting this rifle with both eyes closed, gritting my teeth, as I am doing the same with my 450 No2 double rifle...

I am not really a lever action Freek...
But I must say I REALLY like this 1895 in 405WCF...

crsheltonSounds like you will be ready to hunt. Those NF FPS will do the job on most anything. I took an Asian water buff with the NF CPS in my .405 and the beastie was DRT.
A couple of my Aussie friends shoot 1895 .405 rifles and have taken many head of game with them, including elk and bison here in Texas.
Where down under will you be hunting?

N E 450 No2Hi Mike
I am currently in Australia, fixing to head out on a buffalo hunt. I have my 1895 in 405, with me.
It is loaded with your 300gr NF softs, and the 300 gr NF FP solids.
It is not a passing fad, I really like the rifle and calibre.

crsheltonMike and all,
Here is a link to a 2012 post on some Aussie friends hunting with their 1895 .405 rifles in Texas:
http://www.levergunscommunity....199&p=566114#p566114 Peter took his bison with one of my hand loads - your NF 300 grain FPS at 2250 fps - one shot , one kill.
Jake took his elk with his .405 and factory Hornady 300 grain ammo.
The scope sight on Peter's rifle proved what I had believed - the 1895 .405 is an accurate combination.

You have to use a 405 Winchester to bed those auzzie girls?
Lord they are one tough bunch. 'That time of the month' must be real interesting.
