Date of Manufacture of 99 Savage
An old friend (we've been hunting buddies ever since we could cock BB guns, which we used to kill grasshoppers and ants) just gave me his old 250-3000 and I'd like to find out more about it. According to a post by Ray Atkinson, it's a post war EG, serial # 648083. Paul got it in the mid 50's; we were both born in 1940, I had a 30-30 then and we had a million arguments about which was best. He was too thick-headed to convince him that the 30-30 was the one. Oh well.

I plan to take it pig (javelina)hunting next Feb and have ordered dies and 22-250 brass. I'm going to give it a good cleaning today and will check the rifling twist then.

Thanks for any info.

Jerry, probably made about 1952 by some of the serial number databases.

A Post war EG in 250 was offered from 1945 to 1961 and your gun would be about 1952 I suspect.

And oh yes the 250-300 is a more potent, flatter shooting caliber than the 30-30 about anyway you cut it...not to degrade the 30-30 I cut my teeth on that one..Ive used both on deer and elk and the 250 just does a better job if you use the right bullet.
