MushAre Hornady 350 gr. Round nose....
Are these bullets safe to operated in a guide gun. In the Hornady reloading book, it is mentionned that they can be use to reload 45/70 cartriged but I have a doubt about the safety in the Marlin Guide gun magazine.
Thanks

Woodrow SThey sure can be loaded in a tubular magazine. I just got some for my guide gun to try out. I was using the Remington 405gr. round nose.

nordrsetaBack when the 350 roundnose soft was all they made the Hornady said nothing to the contrary. Ken Waters liked the bullet quite alot and said he touched the nose with a file. Now that Hornady makes a flatnose soft of the same weight and construction there's no reason to worry about it...unless you have a large stash of the old bullets, like me. I load one in the chamber and one in the magazine.

buckeyeshooterI have been using the round nose in my 1895 marlin from the time I got it -- I think it was 1972? It is a first year gun with a serial number around 1000. Never had any type of problem.

Thomas JonesI use the flatt point.
My understaning is that the RN is to tuff for the slow velocity of the 45/70 and will not expand.
But I am sure a well placed shot with either bullet would be quite deadly...tj3006

buckeyeshooterThe rn works quite well from 1500fps to 2100fps. If you are using factory specs for velocity (1880 fps at muzzle) it will work very well.
