Anybody ever tried this??

.30 Luger bullets are .308" dia. and commonly 90 grains. Hornady, for one, makes an XTP HP which would function O.K. in a '94 tube magazine. I'm thinking that this would make a darned cute reduced load for plinking and general vermin duty......all the while keeping a guy sharp with his levergun.

Jack O'Connor wrote of the desperate days of WW II, on the home front when the government was hogging all the shooting supplies... he said they would take the full metal jacket .30 Lugar bullets and shoot them in '06. Coyotes were more likely to run off and ballistics sucked, but they went bang and gave the shooter something to shoot.

SO your plan should work fine. Reduced loads or inefficient full loads that don't burn completely with light bullet. Lead bullets or jacketed. As you suggest, flat nose for safety in magazine. Or single load pointed bullets??? Great for cheap practice. Luck.

Hornady also makes a FN-HP 110gr that works every bit as
well.

I'm figuring on finding a case-capacity load of something on the slower side to help deter bullet setback in the tube magazine.
