Just found a Rossi 92SRC for 200 bucks at the pawn shop. Very Nice condition! 38spcl/357 mag. Is this a good deal on these guns. I see them online for 400+ dollars. What do you guys think of these guns.

Is that the pump or the Lever action, I can't keep them straight. Good price though. Les

I have a Rossi in 45 Colt. Once I lapped out the barrel its very accurate.
I really like mine.

arkypete,
What does it take to "lap" a barrel. Exactly what does that do. Sorry i am new to all the lingo.

OK
I'm a cast bullet shooter.
In lesser grade barrels the barrel diameter varies to a small degree. The rifling have roughness and burrs. All of which contribute to leading and fouling in the rifle, leading up to reduced accuracy.
You can buy a lapping kit from Midway less the $20.00. What this kit has is three different abrasive grits, course, medium and fine, with instructions and two steel plates.
I took some unsized, unlubed cast bullets, basically scrap culls. I rubbed some of the course abrasive on one of the steel plates, set 3 or 4 bullets on the plate. Then set the second steel plate on top of the bullets and rolled them along the abrasive ladened steel plate, with pressure, to imbed the abrasive into the lead bullet.
I repeated this until I had 15 bullets with course, 30 to 35 with medium and fifty with the fine grit.
Remembering I'm using a 45 Colt, I loaded 6.5 grains of Unique in the cases seated the bullets.
I took cleaning gear to clean between each series of grits and a good cleaning after completing the lapping program.
Again keeping in mind I've been shooting 45 Colt for 30 some odd years, I have buckets of cases, so all the cases used for the lapping were scrapped.
I also cast bullets.
This same process can be used with jacketed bullets, factory cast bullets with the same results.
My barrel does not lead with hot loads, does not foul badly and is shiney as can be after a days shooting.

I own a Rossi M-92SRC in .44-40 WCF which I bought back in 1983. It's a very good carbine, and with proper Bullets/loads, it would make a good short range Deer rifle.

That should be a fine Lever. I have a Rossi made, EMF brand M92 .44 Special and it is sweet. Paco's Leverguns forum has quite a bit of info on these, and how to cleanup one or two things that may need work.
