Re: Savage 99 accuracy
I got my third 99 yesterday.
I dickered the old man down from $200 to $175 for a 1918 take down in 250/3000.
The bore is not good, the barrel is not original, becuase the reciever has interuped threads and the barrel does not.
The forestock is beat up and has a coupld chunks missing.
The rest of the rifle is fine, and I see cutting some square theads in my lathe's future.

elblerinnvGentlemen, I am late to this party, but would like to tell you about my .30-30, serial number 30844. With it's 26" half round, half octagon, barrel, stock lengthened twice, Marble's old style folding tang sight, and original front sight, it went to the Nevada Cast Boolit Shoot, NCBS '04. There Curmudgeon's stepson, Jaremy, used it to win the 200 yard offhand match. Four hits out of five shots on the steel plate, and he had never fired (hell, he'd never seen it) it before. I only got three hits with my '03 Springfield. This Savage looks terrible but shoots pretty fair. My boss gave me this rifle for Christmas in 1982, it holds a special place in the gun safe amongst the lesser pieces.
