Marlin M-95 in .348 WCF

Marlin M-95 in .348 WCF
I�m seaching a Winchester �71 in.348WCF, but in Germany this rifle is very rare and expensive.
My idea was to rebarrel a Marlin Mod. 1895 to .348WCF.
Is it possible to convert a Marlin to .348WCF or .33WCF, or are this rounds to long for the Marlin action?

Ayup, toooo long. Take a look at some of the other various threads on this forum. Lotsa' discussion on the Marlin 1895. Fiddlin' around with RCBS.Load this am, and an innerestin' option would be to rebarrel a 444 or 1895 in 45/70 to 35cal,,,,, and then neck down either the 450Marlin case, or the 45/70.
Winchester 71's are hard enuff to find here in the States, LOL, next to impossible I would guess in Germany. Can you get the Brownings?

The 33 Winchester's case can be made from the 45/70 case.
Therefore, a Marlin 1895 should be easily rebarreled to 33 Winchester. I have seen shot out Winchester 33s in Marlin's made a long time ago, bored out to 45/70.

I had talked to a gun smith in Tulsa Oklahoma once while passing thru town on business with time to kill on the way to the airport. He made a booooming business of converting ( rebarreling) Marlins to older cartridges. He showed me several included a 33 Winchester, a 40/65, and I believe a 40/82. I don't remember his shop or his name, but he indicated he shipped these all over the world. I am sure a good German smith can rebarrel a 45/70 to 33 Winchester for you. I know the rim on a 348 is larger than a 444, I never compared it to a 45/70 case, as I own a 444, so never had the need for a 45/70.

I could be happy with a 33 Winchester or a 40/65 Marlin for sure.!!

SAAMI specs for the rim on the
348Win : .610"
45/70 : .608"
444M : .512"
450M : .532"
30-30 : .506"
Foolin' around today with a 450M case, and a 336 boltface in a 30-30,,,, wouldn't take much to get that belted case rim to fit, and the 444Marlin is no problem at all.

I would not suggest the Win. M-95 for a rimmed cartridge, it was basically designed for a rimless round...and I might add the 348 is too long and that is a complicated action. Not saying it can't be done as anything can be done if you got the bucks to pay for it...

Besides the 30-06 is a much better killer under any circumstances than the 348 WCF in its original action...I used the 348 for sometime and its a neat gun if you can find one that shoots, and that is a fault of the 348 Win, most don't shoot for beans..

Now if you wanted to do it right then use the 9.3x62, or even a 35 Whelen, those are easy conversions...

Big Bore Fan (first post in the thread) was asking about converting a current Marlin Model 1895 not the Winchester Model 1895. The Marlin 1895 is the one Marlin currently chambers for the .45-70. Also, the Winchester 1895 was chambered in several rimmed cartridges. The .30-40 Krag, the .35 Winchester, and .405 Winchester as examples.

A Marlin collector friend of mine has seen an early Marlin prototype rifle in .348 Win on a Model 36 rifle. Remember the 36 had the old square style bolt like the earlier 93 and 95's. These .348 Win prototypes are not mentioned in Col. Brophy's Marlin book. Anyone's guess why Marlin never went forward with this chambering.

Didn't Marlin make a longer action, something like the Winchester 1886? I'm relatively new to the lever action topic, but I think I've read mention of or saw photos of Marlins with covered ejection port like their current model 39.
Would it not be great if the Japanese who make the Winchester reproductions could make some of the older Marlins? Would the patents and copyrights be expired by now.
