I've read -a while back- a posting by an owner of a BLR with the pop-can receiver and his complaint was: where steel pins are in the pop-can receive, those steel pins are 'wearing' the pop-can housing area where they are in due to recoil. Rifle is 'shooting itself loose" ...

That is paraphrased, wish I had the exact written post...which by the way I very well could have read on this site!

Like I said it's beem awhile.

I have no technical skills to validate his info.

Have one in .450 Marlin and it is a great rifle. Light, quick, and accurate. Put a 1.5x5x20 on it and first group was .665" Very happy with it. I'm pretty sure the pins he's referring to have been replaced with screws.

Quted from mikethebear on this site:

"The Pre-81 (pot belly magazine) and 81 used taper pins to hold the stuff in place in the receiver. Later when the orginal aluminimum model came our the pins tended to wallow out with use. Now you will notice they use screws on the newest one. If you have to get a new aluminum one to get a 358 winchester then doit."

johnair, keep us posted on that Taylor Z-Hat is doing for you. I am still contemplating having him do one for me in .416 Taylor. I would like to know how yours comes out and your impressions shooting it. By the way, that's a really fine stag in your photo.
