Puncher?s about Marlin 1895 CB
I'm considering buying a Marlin 1895 CB chambered in .45-70 and I'm looking for feedback on this rifle. Anybody here got one?

David ThomasI do not have a 1895 CB, but I have an 1895-S (22" Barrel) and 2 Marlin CB's (one in 45 and one in 30-30). I just can't say enough good things about these rifles to do them justice.
Only one bad thing can be said about the 1895 CB... no recoil pad. Ofcourse with a username like yours I am sure you won't need one.

All of my Marlins shoot great. I am sure you won't be disapointed if you do decide to get the rifle, can't say the same if you don't. Keep us posted on your decision.

475GuyAfter being spoiled with my Guideguns, the CB wood is just plain and unattractive. I have shooting partners that swear by the accuracy of these guns.

Puncher475Guy,
I guess what I'm looking for is comments on performance and accuracy. If I buy this rifle, I'll be reloading cast for it and shooting it for leisure.

woofernice choice. i love the way they handle. like a nice shotgun. the barrel just seems to point itself. if i were to buy another tomorrow no doubt the cb would get the nod. as accurate or better than the "shorties". you wont be dissapointed.

PuncherOtto,
I'm interested in what you're feeding your 1895CB. I plan on shooting hard cast in mine. They say it has the deep cut Ballard rifling which is supposed to be very good for that.

z1rI just shot mine last weekend. Absolutely love the rifle. I think they cheaped out on the wood, they used to be better, but the rifle still shoots great. Did very well in the cowboy silhouette match. Was shooting 14.6 grains Unique and a 405 grain hardcast GC LBT bullet. Biggest or only real complaint is the crappy sights. This is the only Marlin I have that I cannot use the original sights on. I installed a Smith Enterprises sight and opted for the peep insert for the ladder. Only complaint about that sight is that the recoil will cause the ball & spring detent on the ladder to fail allowing the sight to migrate higher. The next shot is then too high. I fixed that with a hex head screw. It looks just like it has a knurled knob. Next time I'll do better than the 28 I scored.
I know a marbles would have been better but I just don't like tang sights.

JeffPuncher, I bought one about a year ago. It is my first lever gun and my first Big Bore. I wanted a big bore to hunt with and fell in love with the feel of this rifle so I bought it instead of the 22" Marlin. I have shot some lead out of mine but I have settled on the Hornady 350 gr FP over 44 gr of H4198, seated to 2.55" with CCI 200 primers to hunt with. I let my sons shoot it with 405 lead and 11-15 gr of Unique. We have had a blast with it. My hunting load shoots @ 1 1/2" at 100 yards when I am having a good day. That is with a Williams 5D and the factory front blade. I am changing that to a Lyman 17A soon. Mine has a smooth action and it gets smoother with use. I have a good trigger(some don't) except that it is HEAVY. I put a Pachmyer(sp?) on mine and I think I would have liked the Simms better. My loads aren't bad but you can get them that way. Not needed in TN for whitetail though. The boys and I have shot it a lot at 200 and 300 yds just for the fun of it and I am very pleased. The rest of my deer guns never left the safe this season.
