Just picked up a couple of Winnie '95s. Didn't really want or need them, but the price was right. Got one .303 Brit and one 38-72 Win; overall condition about 40%. I need to find a barrel for the .303 - unless I plan on using it as a shotgun, but the 38-72 is shootable as is. Also got a chance at a barreled action in .35 Win. decisions, decisions. Oh, me, got to find space for them on the rack...

On the .303, have you considered having the barrel relined? A friend of mine had a 1920's vintage M94 in 25-35 relined to the same cartridge and it shoots great.

I don't know what to suggest beyond rebarreling. I bought 2 re-pro 95's and had one rebarreled to 35 Whelen...both were 30-06 rifles. You could have it rebarreled to 303 with no problem at all and I strongly recommend Dennis Olson of Plains, Montana to do the work. My 35 Whelen rifle is flawless.....looks like it left the factory that way. I paid about $500 for his services. He ain't cheap, but the quality reflects the cost. I'd love to find a climbin' Lyman peep (model 38) to complete my rifle.

Reproduction Lyman Peep sights for the Winchester '95 are available from Buffalo Arms, but they are not cheap.

I just pick up a browning 95,it has no safety tab,I am thinking when I get some green to send it out and have to changed to a 9.3X62. Maybe Z-Hat custom will do it,have to look into it some more,Kev

Kev. There's a guy in Prescott Arizona that does reboring. I'm thinking about taking my Browning 95 to him and having him do the job. If you want, E-mail me and I'll send you a link to his operation. He ain't cheap, but he has an excellent reputation.

Yeah, I'd really like to get it re-lined. I don't want to put a "new" barrel on it unless it is an original '95 barrel in .303. I talked to a guy out west, but the best he could do was a 7.62 Russian barrel. Too many other adjustments needed on rifle to go that route. Re-linng is an OK repair for an older, shot-out barrel. Don't want to change caliber as I would probably end up having to have other work done internally for a different case to fit/cycle in/out of the magazine. Tried the 7.62 Russian but the case rim is to large to fit into the mag. Also just think it would be cool to have one in .303 to go with my Lee-Enfield MkI and Mk4.

Resurecting this thread after doing a search - hoping you may still be on the forum and could add some comment.

I'm currently looking into doing this same conversion ('06 to .35 Whelen). Your comment about the cost of re-barreling... Does that apply to re barreling the model 95? I was under the impression that swapping parrels for levers was pretty expensive vs. re-bore due to the vaious dovetail cuts, etc. Would be very interested in your experience.
