Winchester 1895 Carbine
Does annyone have one of the new ones? How do you like it? What receiver sight will fit it?

I have a carbine in 30-06 and one in 30-40. The 30-40 is still unfired. I added a williams foolproof to the 30-06. It is drilled and tapped and the williams for the 1886 fits with no problem.
I really like the gun with 3 glaring exceptions!
1) the front ramp is brass and very hard to see. It also sticks up an inch and will snag on brush. I have thought of getting a ramp replacement made but have not done it yet. It would be an easy replacement as the sight is pinned in.
2) The factory rear elevator sight (flip up for long range) is very hard to use in the down (100 to 500 yard) position because of the very shallow groove in it. The blade is too short to deepen it also.
3) the steel buttplate on this sucker kicks way too hard for a 30-06!! I would rather shoot my Ruger 77 in .458 with full speed 500's -- its hurts less! I put on a cowboy action leather buttcuff that helps some.

I have had a 30-40 since it was introduced. Excellent replica but not a particularly pleasant rifle to shoot. I have the original carbine sights.
