Roger410 IN A 45/70
Gents,
I'm sure this has been hashed out before, but I can't remember where.
Can a 3 inch, 410 shotshell, be safely fired in a 45/70 chamber?

jackfishNo. A 2.5" 410 can but will ruin the shell.

RogerJackfish,
I'm going to try this in my Guide Gun.
Is this a single load operation or can the 410's be loaded in the magazine?
Thanks,
Roger QSL

JTHCorrect me if I'm wrong, but isn't that also possible with a .444 Marlin?

Geo.A fellow whom I know has an original Marlin .410 lever action shotgun. 26 inch bbl., etc. They were made from 1929-1932 ss promotional guns. Maybe you could find one of those.

RogerGeo,
Winchester makes the 9410 if I were interested in straight lever 410.
Just playing around with my guide gun. Read somewhere about shooting 410's in the 45/70. Sounded like a fun thing to do.

AvatarI have tried this in my Marlin Guide Gun.
They didn't fire.
The rim on the shotshells is too thin and the firing pin does not have enough protrusion to ignite the primer. It whacks it alright, but just not quite enough. It may work in other guns but it didn't in mine.
Maybe a rubber band or other spacer placed in front of the rim of the shell would back it out enough to allow a proper strike on the primer.

DRSI think it would much more efective if you just loaded up a .45-70 "Shot Shell". You'll receiver better results than from a .410 shell.
