XS sights on a 336 - Experienced hand needed!
I have just installed some XS sights, front and aperture, on my Marlin 336 - and been having a real problem sighting them in.
The shots want to go really high - 8 inches high at 25 yards, and thats with the aperture screwed as low as possible.
Now admittedly this is with the larger aperture, but will that make so much difference?
Lots of you must have have put these on - where am I going wrong?

If you have only the XS rear the original front bead is way too low. If you have an XS replacement you may have been sold one that is too short.

No I don't think so - I've got the foresight blade and aperture.....

I've had the same problem. Your front sight is too low. Get a taller one.

Call XS and ask them to send you a "test post". It is a plastic front post with segments you can clip off. Install the test post and test fire. Clip off sections until your front sight is the correct height. Call XS and tell them how many segments are left and they will send you the proper front sight.

Also, don't forget to adjust the rear sight so that you will have some up and down adjustment when you are done.

They make a couple of rear sights that will fit on teh same receivers. Some are made for the dovetailed original front sight and some fo rteh ramped sights. The rifles that came with a ramped sight have a taller blade.

XS has super customer service. Like has been said, they will supply you with a test blade to determine correct height. Call or email them, they'll try to set things straight.

Not to "hijack" the thread, but, who makes XS Sights and do they have a website? I am interested is having a aperture sight on my Marlin 336.

Thanks,
Hoot

http://www.xssights.com/ But FWIW the XS (and the Brockman and WWG) sights are too tall for me, preventing a strong cheek weld. A simple Williams or Lyman receiver sight will give you a lower sight line.

The XS is taller, but sturdier than the Williams that I use. Have to try them out to know for sure.

They shure are ugly! I much prefer a foolproof with the reciever drilled (if necessary). thumbdown stir
