44 Mag ammo in a tube mag question
Last weekend I picked up a Marlin 1894PG in 44 Mag. The only factory ammo I have been able to find is PMC 240gr JHP.
I know that you don't use pointed bullets in a tube mag. The projectile is conical shaped and placing one on top of the other indicates that the tip (flat) of the projectile makes contact with the outer edge (all the way around) of the primer of the top one.
Is this going to be OK loaded into a tube magazine?

Worst case I see is to only load and fire one bullet at a time. I will be reloading once I have broken in the 1984PG.

Thank you

Over the past 2 years I have shot about 150 rounds of that very same ammo out of my Marlin 44 Mag and haven't had a kaboom yet. Seems perfectly safe to me, go for it.

FERAL .rule of thumb in tube mags is pointed & full jacketed solids are (With the exception of your Mother in law using em Big Grin).A BIG NO NO!FLAT NOSE&HOLLOW POINTS are the way to go.I have used that rule for all the years I've been using lever guns (only lost 1 mother in law so far) just remember all times wasted wots not spent shootin

I have been shooting lots of the PMC ammo from my Marlin, and have never had an issue. I don't think you could find a .44 bullet on the market today that would be pointed enough to give you a detonation in the magazine tube. Even 30-30 ammo touches the primer edge, but since the meplat (nice two-dollar word from a gun mag) is flat, it can't impact the primer enough to ignite, or so i'm told Smiler

All,
Thank you for the feedback.

I picked up some JHP and Lead FN for reloading so I should be OK.

Thanks
