" If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand which feeds you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countryman " Samuel Adams, 1772

GunsCoreI notice that you don't have scopes on your Marlins. I guess in the thick timber they just get in the way? How long are the typical shots you take on elk there? What iron sights are you using? Thanks for the photos and good luck.

DWrightThanks, great pics! Made my morning. And hunting Elk the way they should be hunted: horses and big lever rifles! Don't get any better than that.

Jim Z.Pics were taken in the Strawberry Wilderness. My rifle is a winchester not a Marlin so I can't scope it. I have a reciever peep sight one it. The Marlin my partner had is his saddlegun, so he did not want a scope on it.
Hat was relatively new but is isn't any more,
Is this any better, me in old hat.
Tack isn't new just well maintained.

TimberlineJim Z. - Your big Winchester appears to be a Winchester 1886 Deluxe Take-Down Limited recently made especialy for Davidson's. Is that correct?
You also mention that you altered the sight system, installing a reciever sight and maybe a new front sight. Can you detail what sight changes you made, and how your rifle now shoots with those changes? How has this rifle handled and shot for you, in general?
And, have you ever weighed this rifle? Actual pounds and ounces? I know the rifle was offered with either a full octagon or a 1/2 octagon - 1/2 round barrel and I'm wondering which would be lighter.
