New Win model 71 and 86 models for 2011. Also new Chiappa 1886 models.

ColoradoMattNew Win model 71 and 86 models for 2011. Also new Chiappa 1886 models.
Looking on Winchester's website, I noticed that they are offering a run of standard configuration Model 71's (348 WCF of course) as a "SHOT show special. Winchester is also offering a "short rifle". This gun has a crescent butt, straight grip, full length mag tube, steel forend cap, and a 24 inch round barrel (hardly a short rifle). The extra-light model apears to still be in the Winchester 1886 lineup.
Chiappa has introduced a "trapper model" with an 18.5" octogon barrel. This rifle is just a stumpy version of the standard model. Chiappa's other new 1886 offering is an all weather version called the "Kodiak Trapper". This model comes with a synthetic stock, straight grip, half round 18.5" or 22" barrel, and all of the metal is plated with what looks like brushed chrome, but I am not certain. Different to be sure.
I have my doubts about the success of Win and Chiappa's 86 rifles, and I don't expect for us to see them around very long. I hope that I am wrong, because I dearly love the 1886 (and the model 71).

eezridrHave always considered them elegant guns. I do prefer the half cock safety.
Actually, I have considered a newer mod 71 (Browning or Win) a potential project gun that I would use sparingly but have it in a shadow box in my study. Have Turnbull case harden the receiver and just have a custom English walnut stock made.
Classic rifles!

8x57 ISCould anybody tell me, if Miroku build this Winchester Modell 71??
26 January 2011, 19:24
MFDI am sure that they are built by Miroku, but only wish they had built them just like the Browning versions without the tang safety, trigger, etc. found on current Winchester offerings. Other than that, the quality of firearms built by Miroku is generally regarded as very high and would think the 71 to be no different.

No, the current, new Winchester M71 have the tang safety, like the other Winchester leveraction rifles.

my bet is 200 grain, but i would rather see the original in 250 grain.

Kyler HamannA TSX in 200 to 225 would be terrific.
Several years ago they told me "tough luck", but hopefully this news from Winchester will change their mind.

No.
Browning produced the M71 only in 1987. Grade 1, 3000 rifles and 4000 carbines, and High Grade, 3000 rifles and 3000 carbines.

Doug TurnbullIf they Barnes were to reintroduce the Barnes 348 TSX in a 220 grain or so for about $39/$40 per 50 how many would you want to order?
Trying to get an idea as to the desires out there to have these bullets made for the 348 Winchester?
I tend to use more than enough gun.

LA7mmI've got a Browning reproduction in very good to excellent condition that I'm looking to sell or trade for an AR style rifle. Any idea of the value of these Browning rifles these days? It's the standard variation, not deluxe and I believe has a 24" barrel but I'll have to double check.
Thanks,
