What powders would you recommend for a fast 400 grain load? In a marlin 1895.

I have the cowboy version with a 26" barrel.

I am looking for the magic 2000 f.p.s. load if it can be done.

My current load is 55 grains of imr 4064 with a 400 speer at 1750 fps.

46 Gr of AR2207 behind either the 405 gr woodleigh 45/70 bullet, the 405 gr rem or 400 gr speer but I think I woukld only get 1750 fps from that, your 26" may squeeze out 1850fps.

Marlin 1895 45-70 22" barrel
400 grain Speer seated to 2.54" and crimped with a Lee Factory Crimp die
Winchester brass, 2.1" trim
CCI 200 primer
50 grains H322 START
55 grains compressed H322 MAXIMUM
MAXIMUM yields 1950 fps from a 22" barrel, should yield around 2020 fps in a 26" barrel
Work up carefully from START towards MAXIMUM watching for signs of excessive pressure or velocity
