A/C guySafe to dry fire?
I just bought a Savage Rascal (single shot youth size .22) for my granddaughter. Is it safe to dry fire, or will the firing pin ding the receiver face? I haven't found anything on the Savage web site or in the manual.
Thanks.
I'm not familiar with the Rascal but if you have any #6 screw dry wall inserts they work as a dry fire device for a .22 or empty cases work well. You can even file a notch where the extractor grabs the case if you want to repeatedly fire with out handling the case everytime.

ray in WenatcheeIn my situation, it wasn't the firing pin, but what the firing pin struck..that indentation caused cartridges not to be loaded at all until it was ironed out.......r in w.

A/C guySome rim fires have a firing pin stop that will limit the forwared travel to just short of the breech face, others don't and would allow the firing pin dent the face and put a burr in the chamber.
