I'm looking for a rimfire rifle that would be similar to my hunting bolt action rifles. Doesn't need to be exactly the same but similar enough in weight and operation to allow me to practice cheap and still have some carryover to my other guns. I shoot everything from a .243 mohawk to a CZ .458 Lott with a couple weatherbys and a winchester in between.

Should I just grab any cheap bolt action? I've thought about the Ruger Hawkeye in .223 but really want rimfire.

What say you gentlemen?

Nicholosi I cant think of any rimfire off hand similar in size to a centre fire rifle. If you can find a CZ 452/ 453 Varmint GRAB IT!!!

Mauser made , in the 1930s , miniature M98s for 22lr .Obviously they perfectly match the grown up M98 .I have both !

I bought one of the Weatherby Mark XXIIs for just that sort of practice. While it's still lighter than most of my centerfires, it has a big-rifle feel and good accuracy. I've put close to 1,000 rounds through it, at ranges from 50 to 150 yards, getting used to shooting off sticks for an upcoming plains game hunt. That lets me shoot 100+ cheap practice rounds each session, interspersed with 20-40 centerfire rounds, from sticks, sitting, offhand, etc. Fromm what I can tell, it's having a positive effect.
