BigdaddytacpThe Lapua Midas in L or M....the size of the diameter of the bullet is .002 different for barrel match....this is great ammo and is on winners list in many matchs...BUT..it is $$$$$...Wolf match target works well and is much cheaper..and one of my guns likes CCI green tag.....Eley high grade works in another gun but it seems variable lately according to lot.......only your gun knows for sure what it likes best...lol.....and what your bank account can stand.....hth..good luck and good shooting!

Ole Miss GuySaeed et al did comprehensive testing of lots of different ammo and posted this imformation a couple of years ago. His test design and results are impressive.

kududeI have been working on a 10/22 accurazing it with off the shelf technology. I have put a bull barrel on it (Midway) with a matching stock (Midway), VQ trigger and hammer, extended bolt handle and mag release, and a pull and release bolt mod. I sent the bolt off to CPC and had the head space set and the firing pin pinned.
The following is a test of various 22lr ammo I did today. First I fired a 10 shot group with SK standard ammo followed by a five shot group with that brand. (Bottom group on the far left is three shots with Aguila Match Pistol.) Then I cleaned, and fired three, five shot groups using the following ammo: Aguila Match Pistol, Aguila HV, American Eagle HV, WW HV Hollow Point, and CCI MiniMag.
In my personal opinion, only the bottom groups should be considered/compared.
Although SK doesn't look as good in this testing, it is the standard by which others are judged in my opinion.
I hope this give you something to consider. Kudude
PS: That big hole in the middle is a 458WinMag round from another test I was doing!

kududeBased on Midway prices, the Aguila HV, American Eagle, and CCI MiniMags are all with in a buck or two of $26/500rds. The Wolf/SK has jumped to $40+/500rds. Kudude

kududeI have put some over the chrono, and want to say that the SK/Wolf is @ 1100fps as is the other HV stuff. The Aquila sub sonic is in the low 1000fps.
The CCI advertises 1235fps. Kudude

tasco 74don't be afraid to try some of the cheaper bulk-pak ammo.... my 1022 custom loves the federal bulk ammo in those blue 550 or 525round boxes..it will shoot them into one hole groups i can cover with my fingertip from a bench off a harris bi-pod or off sandbags.. i started to stock up on these a couple of years ago i probably have enough to last the rest of my life................

my 1022 custom has many of the same parts as yours.. got my barrel and thumbhole stock set from midway a few years ago.. the cpc blueprinted and slicked up bolt is great isn't it??

dustofferGo on over to Rimfire Central and you'll find as many opinions as there are ammo types and rimfire shooters--
Seriously--it usually comes down to "it depends" on your rifle barrel and its personal preferences. Buy a variety of ammo and start shooting groups at 25 yds off a good solid rest/bench. This is half the fun of getting a new rifle!!

holzaugeDustoffer has the ticket. One of the great beauties of .22 rimfire is that it's cheap, cheap, cheap. I try stuff to see what shoots best in a specific gun. I've found some of my .22s have very strong preferences (my 77/22 is my most accurate and the pickiest)and some do not (my Rem. and Kimber don't seem to care much). My experience has also been that the price of the ammo isn't directly related to accuracy.

AtkinsonMy Win. M-63 likes the fast stuff...I mostly shoot the Western HP at 1220 FPS and the hot Aguila at 1400 plus FPS..It also works the auto action very well...

Leadlobberhivelosity, you didn't say what type of competition you are considering .If it happens to be silhouette ,please keep in mind that high and hyper velocity ammo is real hard on the cast chickens which are set at 40 meters.
My Ruger w/Green Mountain 20" barrel likes Federal AutoMatch .Box states 1200fps @ muzzle 1070fps @ 50 yds.I use this for plinking more than anything.
Eley Practice, RWS Target ,SKjag, Wolf have all been used in my Sako Finnfire for sillywett matches .Good thing it isn't picky about its diet.
