A MUST READ! An IR50/50 Sporter Shooting Feat That May Never Be Beat

Ok, rimfire benchrest shooters, imagine this if you will:

9 Sporter Targets shot at 2 different venues, over a 2 week period.

Result, 8 - consecutive 250s in a row.

2248 out of 2250 points over 9 targets, with a sporter and a straight 6X scope.

Yes, he did it again! Ed Hosier shot another 750 today with his sporter, with 54X at the Wawarsing Club's Sporter Match. And if you are thinking, it must have been near perfect conditions, think again. A very switchy wind was blowing for much of the match. He has a death grip on the sporter scoreline and has the rest of the season to just keep improving his X count. That's 200 10s shot in a row and counting. I don't think that has ever been done with any IR class by any shooter.

And - - - it could just get better. I've never seen anything like it. I would have bet $10K that it would not be possible.

For those wanting to know, he used a sporter he built on the 2500X sporter action with a Muller 4 MI, shooting Lapua Midas +.

Those who witnessed this feat are gobsmacked. To say, "Well Done Ed" seems inadequate. This has to be the most amazing RFBR feat in BR history.

This is a case where the word "competitor", which comes from the Latin word competitore(sp?) fits.

It means "to witness", which is what the rest of the shooters there did...

Who makes that action? Just PM me, if you would.

thanks,

Rich

When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere.

That is one hell of a feat! Very impressive shooting, especially with a sporter. Congrats to Ed.

Steve, I'm checking. The hot RF barrels at the present are Shilen, Broughton, and Benchmark. Kinda funny that they are all button rifled. Do you know Richard Gorham in your neck of the woods? He is about the best RF barrelman at this time. I would check with him. I have an 8 groove LH twist, and gaintwist Bartlien that I need to get Richard to chamber.

Steve, I just read the post that started this thread. It is a Muller barrel. It is a SS barrel. It is a button rifle barrel. Guy either works with or out of Rock Creek Barrels place.

Thanks Butch...I missed it also.

No I dont know Richard Gorham or have any info on him. Id have to do my own anyway...Smiler.

I was hoping it was a molly barrel...my next project requires one. I think I'll go with Shilen lapped chrome molly bull barrel.

Muller barrel is a Dan Muller of Mullerworks barrels in Oconomowoc, WI. He makes top notch rimfire barrels but not a lot of them. He spends an inordinate amount of time lapping and slugging them. I've gotten a few from him and they do shoot incredibly well, but I've wasted them on building nice bolt action sporters for squirrel hunting... He recently designed and built a CNC cut rifling machine and is producing more center fire barrels that are garnering notice in long range sports. Killalough Sports occasionally gets his rimfire barrels in and they go fast.

Shoot straight, shoot often.

What amazes me is that he found some rimfire ammo that shoots like that.
