Marlin Bolt Action Issues...
I have a Marlin .17 HMR with a heavy stainless barrel and a laminate stock (the model number escapes me at the moment and I'm at work- 913 maybe?), and I've been having some issues with it not going off. At first, I thought maybe the bolt was dirty, so I sprayed it with some Rem Oil, and it worked ok for about 20 rounds or so, but then went back to having a misfire about twice out of every 10 rounds or so. This happens with two different types of ammunition, as well. Any ideas on what it may be? Broken firing pin? If I recock the bolt and shoot again, same result, just a click. If I take the round out and put it back in the gun (making the firing pin hit a different spot on the case), it goes off. It doesn't look like the hits are light when it doesn't go off, either. Just wanted to get some opinions before I take it apart myself, because I'm not too good at that at times! hilbily hammering

You might get your answer at RimfireCentral.com

Part of their forum is dedicated to Marlin
rimfires. Ask there.

I have a Marlin 917 17hmr which sometimes
misfires, but that is perhaps one in 200 shots,
so haven't worried about it much. When it does
misfire, the dent is just as deep as when it
fires. I just blow it off as being a case which
was not properly filled with primer, but your
situation would be much more of a problem.

Have you tried taking apart and cleaning the firing pin and bolt? More oil may not help.
