I picked one of these up on a whim because I thought they were cool and I believe you cannot have too many 22 Long rifle.

I have a question the last shell extracts but does not eject is this normal? It appears that the shell about to go into the chamber is what kicks he empty shell out, not possible when there is no more loaded ammo

I've only ever seen a couple of them, but the old guys called them "miserable loaders".

The last empty case (or a live rd for that matter) extracted from the chamber is a 'manual removal',,as you found,, the next live round up from the magazine would normally be the 'ejector' in the guns design.

These were last made in 1934 or there abouts and as best as I've been able to find, they should be shot with Standard Vel ammo only.
Finiky mechanism on most rifles found around today as most are worn and many abused.
In good condition they work very nicely and are a fine little repeater.
The Model 70 was the 22LR w/a round Bbl
They made a .22Short cal edition for a time too.,,Model 70 1/2.
Towards the end of production they came out w/an octagon bbl, Model 71. I think the 71 had a pistol grip stock also. The others a straight grip
