Stevens No. 12 Marksman Rifle
Hey everyone,

Just sharing a few photos of a new find.. that was given to me, by a friend Big Grin

It was pretty rusted up and looked like it hadn't ever been cleaned: Old harden oil, grease & dirt inside of the action, and the exterior metal had a scaled rust coating, I couldn't read any marking.

I just happened to have a " Stevens 1924 Catalog ", which I used to identify the Rifle.

Stevens No. 12 MARKSMAN: .22 LR, .25 Long, or .32 RF cal., boys type single shot with traditional Stevens profile, operated with underlever that allows barrel to tip up for loading, 22 in. round tapered barrel, walnut stock and forend, silver blade front sight and "V" block rear sight, knurled thumbscrew for takedown. Mfg. 1912-1933.

SCHEMATIC:

I cleaned all of the gunk out, lightly greased everything & rounded the firing pin & polished it.

The Rifle was reassembled & wiped down with " RENAISSANCE WAX " and synthetic Steel Wool ( 0000 ).

Before Cleaning , I could barely read any marking.

After a slight cleaning.

Ser# K311

Steel Buttplate.

The Forearm was a bit loose, so I shimmed it with a " Corn Cushion ".

It helped to snug down the Forearm, with no major noticeable gaps.

Project done, now down to the range for function firing/testing Big Grin

Recommend Standard Velocity only. HV did not exist when that one was made.

One of the Tuesday Afternoon Schuetzen shooters has a Stevens Crackshot with a Winchester 52 barrel his Dad made up. I have seen him score 1130 or better, 1250 beiung a perfect score.

P.S: I just picked up a copy of " Single Shot Rifles & Actions By Frank De Haas ", at a reasonable price.

UPDATE:Range Day

Test fire ( First Shot Circled ) Sights were moved progressively toward the center bullseye. : NRA 50 Ft Targets.

Next phase was one shot per bullseye , clockwise.

I couldn't bring the rifle to my shoulder & hold tight on the Bullseye, as the small stock was a bit awkward.

Oh well ..It works. No misfires or ejection issues, & the Barrel isn't completely shot out!! tu2
