NaphtaliPlease identify subsonic .22 LR ammunition plus satisfactory rifle for it
I write the question didactically because I am uncertain I understand the result I seek. In the universe of currently manufactured .22 LR ammunition, which are subsonic
only?
1. Which among these have truncated or flat-pointed bullets of any sort?
2. Which among #1 have a lubricant that is not a sludgy grease?
3. Which among #2 are target grade?

I seek to acquire a manually operated rifle that yields satisfactory accuracy for small game to 35 meters. I strongly prefer a pump- or lever-action or a single shot (perhaps as one barrel of a combination gun?). Were it available, I would prefer the rifle to be predominantly stainless steel.
I have no preference to acquiring previously owned, or new rifle.

rickt300Of the currently available subsonic ammo I'd try Remington subsonic though it has not a flat point it will easily provide accuracy enough for small game at 35 meters. As to the rifle my choice is a G2 contender in blue but they are available in stainless. This combination gives slightly smaller groups than 1/2 inch at 50 yards.

JAYBI've used Eley for years, here in the UK we use subs in conjunction with moderators, and I honestly can't remember the last time used anything other than a sub. I have tried many makes but keep coming back to the Eley.

DMBSK Subsonic ammo is THE ammo of choice for many 22 Rimfire competitors...

kududeDid some test with Aguila subsonic today. Temp was nominally 70F. We are at roughly sea level. Under those conditions, SOS is 1062fps.
Average velocity for nine round from my 20" barrel 10/22 was 1007fps.
This ammo does not extract well from the 10/22. Mine has a rounded bolt block and standard recoil spring. Kudude

The SpecialistQuite a few of my pals are getting good results with Winchester hollow point subsonics, for Rabbit and the like.
Mostly in CZs.

sputsterI tried to shoot CCI Subsonic through my Shilen-barrelled 10/22 and they wouldn't chamber. At all.

N. S. SherlockWhile 22 bullets are made to varying accuracy standards, their accuracy does not exist apart from possibly YOUR gun and the factory test queen. You can make most of them flat pointed with little effort, if flat or game killing is what you seek. That is achievable. If you must have a hard or dry lubed bullet, that's a step toward the universe of bullets you don't need to test. Back to the first observation. N.S.

K9 BanditI use RWS in my 452 when shooting with the moderator on, best accuracy I can get from subsonics.

C.C.At the risk of being the only one, I LIKE Remmie Subsonic! Reliable and accurate, although others' testing indicates it doesn't expand. I've used my Paco tool on some, to see if accuracy/expansion might not increase.
CCI Sub. is accurate, too, and does expand reliably, per others who have used it.
I have not tested either for expansion, not having the facilities. Maybe I'll start saving my milk bottles.
