cal pappasadult sized 22 target rifle--what is out there?
Gents:
I'm new to the .22 world as I have not owned one in many years. I do have a dozen bricks of ammo to shoot off and seek an adult sized .22. One that fits me although I doubt I'll find one with a 14 3/4" pull.
I know of the Win model 63 and the 52. That's about all. I prefer an older rifle, say pre WWII. Is the Marlin 39 "man sized"?
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Cal

Dall85You don't mention budget, but if you like bolt actions consider the Ruger 77/22. There are many quality .22's from under $100 to $5000. Perhaps a little more about your likes would be good. Both Winchesters you mentioned are excellent, but long out of production. Fun stuff and useful .22's are.
Jim
There should be some of the old Remington 500-series rifles up there...

My two cents:
PRE WWII:!. Remington Rolling Block: .22 Rimfire : Model #1 - #7 ( 1885 - 1910 )
2. Remington: Model 37 (1936-1963) / 513T - 513S (1940-1968)
3. Savage: NRA Model 19 (1919-1946 ); Early models looked very similar to the Bolt Action 1903 service Rifle,
4. Winchester: Model 75 (1935-1963 ) / Model 52 (1920-1980).
5. Martini: 12/15 ( 1935- 1951?); Lots of Custom Rifles based on this action;
** Al Freeland Martini **I personally have in my small collection.
Savage NRA model 19, with period type scope ( Original needs repair).
Remington 513T , with period type scope.
Martini 12/15
http://www.rifleman.org.uk/BSA_Model_12-15.htm
Martini 12/15 with Custom Stock, Custom Heavy Barrel & Unertl Scope.
Most will shoot * 1" - 1/2 " Groups * @ 50yards. Not unheard of,
much better groups
Remington 513T , with an
old 4x scope @ 50 yards. Upper two targets bulls were the last rounds after scope adjustments ( #4 / #1 )
10 round groups. No cherry picking groups, for photos examples.
All the above are " Adult Sized Rifles ".
Rem 513T / H&R M12 / Kimber 82G / Martini 12/15 / Win 52D / Rem 40X / Savage NRA 19 03 April 2014, 16:03
loiblbMy CZ 455 and Ruger 77/22 are worth a look. Both need triggers worked on to bring into real shooters.
The Stevens 416 WW2 trainer I found sure is a man size rifle that shoots well. I still look for a Remington Model 513T sometimes. Just not found one in very good condition worth the cost.

Thanks, all for your replies. Many of what you mentioned I've no knowledge of.
Budget is no worry. I prefer older rifles made prior to WWII.
Cheers, gents.

Evan K.Will this rifle only see use at the range or do you think you might carry it some?
If budget is no worry Cooper, Kimber, and Anschutz all make very well made "adult-sized" sporters that can shoot nearly as well as their target versions. Hendershots has some Coopers and Anschutz rifles listed to compare:
http://www.hendershots.net/gunroom.aspx The Kimber rimfires may be harder to find since they aren't made anymore.
While those rifles are the classic walnut-and-steel type they are all modern made, so if you really want a pre-WWII rifle I'd look for a Winchester 52.

Another option might be a " Reproduction " of a
Pre-WWII Rifle.

rifle will be used for target shooting, plinking to shoot up lots of .22 ammo I have in stock, and general fun. Very little carry.

sroseThe Remington 513s are great guns and pretty reasonable in price. The Rem 513 SA is one of the nicest sporters but are really hard to find. The DCM had Kimbers for sale at one time, these are also nice.

I would go with the Winchester 52 then or a Remington 37 if you can find one.

SingleshotloverThink PAPI pretty much covered most if not all the bases. The DCM once sold the H&R model 12 which was the military version of the commercial target rifle put out by H&R. For $300 you got the rifle, palma type rear sight and redfield globe front sight and a whole bunch of inserts for the front sight. All I could afford was the H&R. Hasn't disappointed me and just use it for informal shooting. Depends wether you are serious about target shooting or just want an accurate 22 target rifle to shoot with. Regardless which way you go most if not all the rifles shown should be able to keep you happy. One rifle you may want to look at are the BSA international series of 22's. $$$ but extremely accurate. Have fun,Frank

cal pappasThanks for your input, gents, and at the next gun show I will be looking for a model 52.

Remington Model 37
Remington 513
Winchester Model 52 Target
All were made pre- and post-WWII and any would make you happy and probably shoot better than you could hold.
I have a Model 75 Sporter with a Lyman 58 and a Springfield 1922 MI with the original Lyman 48. I have trouble seeing well at 50 yards but both rifles, with proper ammo, will shoot .3" to .5" groups at 50 yards. With these rifles, I have had some of the most fun I have had shooting in many years. Go for it, Cal.

Ooou...I, too like the Win M52 Target!
I have never owned one but have had opportunity to shoot several. You are definitely on the right track but may take a while to find the right one for you. May I suggest you look at getting a new CZ-455 Varmint while your on the quest for that old M52T.

PeterAn Anschutz MS or a BSA martini 12/15 would be my choices for semi serious target accuracy.
