I ran across a Cooper benchrest rifle, a TRP3 with a green synth stock. The dealer said that it only had 28 rounds shot through it, and was asking $1200. If it is in good shape (seems so), is this a decent price?

Not good, not bad. MSRP is $1550 or so. Would bet an ordering dealer would order you one for $1,400 or close to it.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

If you had any real interest, I'd offer him $1000. That rifle is a tough sale IMO.

When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere.

I agree! Very limited market.

I did go buy it; came with Talley bases and rings, and a cylindrical, stainless steel barrel tuner that clamps to the barrel. Will have to find out more about that one.

Questions: Since this is a (albeit entry-level) benchrest rifle, does the stock scre have to be torqued to a specific value?

What would be a good bore guide for it?

Suggestions on scopes? WIll be meant for 50 yards, benched of course.
