skbDIY Spring Black Bear?
It has been years since I have been to Alaska and I am considering a spring black bear hunt. looking into things like POW island. I like the idea of doing it myself but like most folks, see the issues of not having proper equipment. I have noticed that some places offer semi-guided hunts where they offer lodging and equipment but no real guide services. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I have been known to trade gunsmithing services for hunting services in the past.

Chris LozanoGive this place a look. A group of four took 3 B&C bears on our own. The fourth guy shot and wounded his bear.

MexicanbwanaI went with a group to POW hunted with the fishorhunt.com folks. we were early still lots of snow, the outfitter did everything right, we found bears a long way from Thorne Bay but the outfitter allowed us to trailer his boat to the remote locale. Everything was in good condition, outboards ran like tops, trucks were clean, Hot tub was hot.

oakmanHunted POW in Sept. of 06 with a group of five. We all took bears and some deer and it was self guided. took the ferry over, rented a f-150 , rented a trailer on the northwest side . All was great and all expenses were split 5 ways. You only hunt bears after high tide goes out--bears come down to feed on the dead fish and then off to the jungles to sleep-- and only on the creeks or tide flats. Deer only come out when it's raining, which is every day but the bucks are up high . So bring good fishing tackle to fish when not hunting.
