Les StaleyAlaska Range Dall Hunt
went well.. had to wait for two days for the wind to let up before rideing the "Harley with wings" the super-cup for the 40 mile flight to sheep camp.. got into camp 9-9-06 evening, next morning hiked out of camp with our guide for the higher country. Guide spotted two rams in a bowl above us, as my son and I struggled to keep up.. made a two hour circle around basin ridge, and came up to two feeding rams within 125 yds.. My son shot first, as his ram had spotted us,, my ram stood faceing us after the shot, and I had him in the crosshairs, but didn't think he was legal.. he turned to go, and the guide said "he's legal, a double broomer".. I took two shots at him on the run, and he finaly stopped, at about 250yds, faceing left into the stiff wind,, I held on his leading edge and took him through the front leg/ribs.. (all on video)..he lurched forward a few feet, and then staggerd backward, rolled down the mountain about 100 yds.. After picture takeing and capeing out Chad's ram, deboneing it, and field dressing mine, we started down, only to be overtaken by darkness.. holed up in the first timber we could get to, by SureFire light, accross rock slides that had major pucker-factor..slept around the fire..(No rain or snow, thank God). had a late supper of sheep meat roasted over the fire.. We made it down to spike camp next morning, and met the other guide, who along with our first guide went back up and caped, deboned my ram and we all got back to main camp by dark the 11th. If someone would be willing to post the pictures, I can e-mail them to you.. No grizz sightings, but Chad did kill a nice black bear one morning from camp... Weather was great, only about 30 minutes of rain the whole seven days.. (Don't set yourself up for a big disapointment by asking me where we were.. first,, I don't know... second if I did , I wouldn't say out of respect for the Outfitter..) Les

RedlanderHoly Smokes! That's a great deal. You were up the same time period I was (detatiled hunt report in the making). There was some fine weather during September.
Would you mind telling who the outfitter was? I'm thinking a sheep hunt is now in my mind - need more $$ and less of me (about 20 lbs).
Congrats.

Les StaleyRedlander: We found Max Schwab by googleing Alaska Master Guides, and contacted him about 14 months ahead of our hunt. No regrets. Les
