New Mexico man charged with Alaska hunting violations, residency fraud

Wildlife troopers have charged a New Mexico man with multiple hunting violations after a residency investigation in the Homer area revealed he may have illegally claimed to be an Alaska resident.

According to Alaska Wildlife Troopers, investigators say 41-year-old William A. Miller, of Artesia, New Mexico, fraudulently obtained Alaska hunting and sportfishing licenses for four consecutive years — from 2021 to 2024 — despite not meeting the residency requirements.

Miller is now facing a long list of charges, including making false statements on a license application, hunting without a guide as a non-resident, unlawful possession and transportation of game, and multiple violations involving caribou, brown bear, and goat seasons and bag limits.

Miller is scheduled for arraignment on April 23rd in Homer Court.

Wildlife officials say residency fraud undermines conservation efforts and fair hunting practices. They’re urging hunters to review regulations before applying for licenses.
