Sight in range availability.

swampshooterSight in range availability.
I'm making my first trip to Alaska. Due to cruise ship restrictions I'm shipping my firearm ahead and will be picking it up in Wasilla and purchasing ammo there. I would like to check the zero of my new ammo and rather not just put a piece of paper on a tree. Are there any shooting ranges or shooting areas that would be open to the public around Wasilla or Talkeetna?

BC is like diamonds, holding value forever.
Check with Chimo Guns in Wasilla 376-5261.
Here are some more from yellow pages, might be some help. Brophys gunshop 745-2969. Matsu Valley Sportsman 746-4862.
When we lived in Sutton, everybody had their own back yard ranges; probably still do. Shouldn't be hard finding somebody with a bench on their porch.
We live where the Yukon crosses in from Canada (Eagle). I have a T style wood bench on my porch, 200 yard range; might be 500 someday if I live long enough (cutting firewood and all).

so they can rest their belt buckles on something

BushelerCouldn't be argued.
22 July 2010, 21:44
swampshooterI don't need or desire a bench, but I'm not certain that it's legal to target shoot on public land. Don't really want to get arrested 4,000 miles from home.

BushelerPoint taken...that Alaska is notoriously anti-gun and one of THE most densely populated States.
Give or take.
You Texans always manage a way to crack me up.

swampshooterBushler, I don't find your smart aleck remarks entertaining. I'm certain some Alaskans have more respect for their property than you do.

Here's something you might find some humor in.
Here in Alaska, it has become quite traditional to use paved roadside pull offs as public ranges; which always raises the eyebrows of our Euro tourists in their rented campers. I've seen guys with portable benches & chairs; the way it should be all over America.
I remember many years back, south of Anchorage, they had a pull off; state even put up no shooting signs but not sure if they ever got the people to comply.
We always stop at this one pull off on the way to Fairbanks to shoot down into the Tanana with the 460 mag. Speaking of Texas, once at that pull off I'm talking about, I had 2 guys from Texas come up to us while we were popping a few off. They got a kick outta shooting our guns too as they didn't bring any through Canada.
Road hunting with beer is a time honored pastime here in rural Ak.

I imagine facts do cause you MUCH in the way of consternation. Though in fairness, you can't help it...you're a Texan and common sense has yet to catch on there.
Your "certainty" is rather entertaining.

Bear in FairbanksSwamp:
There's a range in Chugiak that's well known. Chugiak is back towards Anch. As I recall, it was a pretty nice place but it's been years since I was there. Hope this helps some. Also, if I remember correctly, there was a range along the road north and near Willow (I think) just north of Wasilla. Coulda been further north towards Talkeetna. I've just driven past it & only saw it briefly. It was on the east side of the road. Surely someone from the Anch. area can chime in here.
In a pinch, I'd use the roadside pull offs. There are a number of them in open country north of Trapper Creek & south of Cantwell.
Also, Anch. has Rabbit Creek range but I don't know if it's membership now or not. Didn't used to be years ago.

Unless you're the lead dog, the scenery never changes.
I never thought that I'd live to see a President worse than Jimmy Carter. Well, I have.
Gun control means using two hands.

Shit do happen and that's when it's important to know how to deal with same...though that doesn't always mean it's fun.
