Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.

It works the same here as anywhere else. Ballisticly just about identical to the 270 winchester.

It'll do for at least 90% of Alaskan hunting.

It will do just fine.Firearm forums are hot spots for people who love to nit pick about fractional differences in ballistic power but for all practical purposes, the 6.5 X 55 is what I consider a "30/06 class" cartridge.

I can see another thread coming -- are there any real world differences between the 6.5x55 and the 30-06 - and, if so, should they be considered nit-picking? A genuine, free-for-all, ballistic masturbation forum.

So true
I've allways thought that saying one caliber is so great while another isn't is kind of like saying a 9/16th wrench is great but a 5/8th isn't.

OK I'll be the one to point out the one fault that can be for the 6.5x55 in AK. Bears. Even if you don't intend on shooting one the necessity rears it's ugly head on occation.

I won't say your 6.5 isen't up to the task but you may want more if the occation arrises.

I had a habbit of carrying my .243 hunting deer and fur down on Kodiak. It was great because it knocked deer off there feet and I carried FMJ's of the same weight and load for foxes and otter. I allways knew of the concern and even when others mention it I allways past off the
worry.

After the third bear encounter I was finnaly broken of that habbit.

Thats not to say don't hunt with it. What I discribed was Kodiak. Anytime you hunt in open area's or places that don't necessarily have a bear behind every tree then go ahead. Up on a mountain sheep hunting you'll see a bear a long way off and have all the oppertunity to just go around. My sheep rifle is a 7x57.
