Boat based brown bear hunt wanted
Thinking about doing a brown bear hunt this fall if possible. I know it's short on timing but that's the way it goes. Looking for suggestions on a boat based hunt or a river boat hunt where we would be mobile. Not at all interested in sitting on a hill glassing for 14 days living in a tent. Thanks for your input in advance.

Several good outfitters based in Sitka do yacht based brown bear hunts. I got mine with Scott McLeod with alaskaravenguides.com. Be glad to answer questions you may have.

Mike Carlson is the man for boat basesd. You don't sleep on the boat, you stay at Larson Bay Lodge and boat to the hunting area every morn. His success rate is high with some real monsters as he hunts native lands unavailable to most guides.

I emailed them already a few days ago. First opening they have is spring 2016 and they're charging about $34,000 with licenses. They claim 70-80% success. Getting awful pricey for a bear these days Wink

This describes very much like the "Mike " that was on one of the hunting channels recently....boat out from the lodge each morning, hunting native lands, etc....I think that I would find a better way to spend $34,000.

Just watched this weeks episode of the "Hunt" (this show is a joke) and "Mike" gave his client the OK to take a 200 yd shot at an 8.5 ft bear from the boat which was being tossed around in the rough water. Unbelievable!

Boat based hunt available Kodiak 12 days hunting opens the 25 hunt to the 6 of Nov. Dave. Manson the reamer manufacturer was booked on this time but decided to go next year, he got a bear with me in the same area as this hunt. My boat is in my web site under the heading The Bear Hunter. The hunt is $10000. All my hunts are personally guided.

Brad Dennison, 'Alaska Coastal Outfitters", out of Sitka puts on a great hunt. I've hunted brown bear with him a couple times and he knows his stuff. Brad and his wife have a great boat for a base camp.

If size matters, you should look no further than Afognak Wilderness Lodge. They consistently get huge bears becasue of the remoteness of their operation. They are a great outfit and family owned. They have a lodge and cover a great deal of territory via boat.

Give them a call and check their availability and rates. I was deer hunting with them a few years ago and can say nothing but good things about the operation and the people. You will definitely get your money's worth and it is in one of the most beautiful places in all Alaska. Josh and Luke are brothers and their knowledge of the area and the bears is impressive. They have clients from around the world fish and hunt with them as repeat customers. That tells me that they not only treated me right but all customers are treated well. You may come as a stranger but you will leave feeling like a family member.

Please tell them I said hello and referred you.
