Here is a picture of the biggest ram I have ever seen let alone shot. Never really cared if I got a book ram, but it just made it that much sweeter!

larryshoresI can't see the pic.

Alaska HunterGreat ram, deep, wide, mass and beautiful length.
How long, what are the bases and what did it score?
The ram of many life times!!!
06 March 2013, 04:52
NorthwayThanks! I was 41 1/2" x 14 1/2 bases. Held its mass all the way through. I would have to look at the score sheet, but I think 171 and some change was the final score. I've killed a lot of rams, but nothing like this one. I wish I had a picture of the group before we got ours out of it. It was "regal" to see a group of 11 rams all sleeping 50 yards away! That picture will is an image I will never forget.

A7DaveTremendous!

That comment right there makes all sheep hunting worthwhile. I've seen similar. A chill just runs up & down my spine when I see a group of rams together and it's too bad more people can't have that type of life experience.

Unless you're the lead dog, the scenery never changes.

The best part was I am not sure my buddy or I got the biggest of the group. Certainly didn't get the cream of the crop. Story that I just can't tell at this time! It might pop up down the road in a hunting book though!

I know the feeling. The last time I went to the Yukon, I thought this might be my last sheep hunt. I was cold & wet. Tired from 10 days of non stop climbing. Tired of horrible weather. Thinking I was too old. Then I peered over the ledge and saw those rams. All those thoughts were erased from my mind.
Hell of a ram brother.

NorthwayThanks Larry! Hoping to have a similar "replay" this fall!

Mid November for Big Horn.
Good luck!

NorthwayNice! Best of luck! I will find a white sheep one way or another! Either where I found this one or in the Wrangell St. Elias park later in the season!

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.
-Seth Peterson

elk88101I think you must have had a great hunt.
What a great Ram
Harvesting a ram of any size is one of the greatest hunts a guy in North America could ever experience.
At any age.
Again super hunt with a super Ram

AKsheephunterI just now seen this, Man thats a cranker ram ....Congrats Northway !!!
Looks like you blew out his shoulder, what you hit him with? 300 Win?
27 March 2013, 07:31
NorthwayHe got hit with the .300 wsm and a .257 Weatherby.
27 March 2013, 08:38
AKsheephunterHmmmm....so which one did the damage?
I'm thinking the .257 Weatherby, stood him up, while the .300 put him down.
27 March 2013, 08:50
elk88101Looks like Weatherby destruction to me.

He didn't get that ram from any of those areas. Just your average over the counter harvest tag in an area that anyone can get to.

27 March 2013, 20:34
broncoformudvAbout time you shared some pics of that big ram Northway!
28 March 2013, 01:34
NorthwayNot sure which did the damage! Both hit it. I'm guessing the .300 did it, but not sure to be honest with you. Both shots made it dead!
Either way, beautiful dead ram!

FishN4EyesDream ram.
