df06Moose rut
If you were going to archery moose hunt in Alaska, couple hundred miles north of Fairbanks, when would you go to hit the rut?
Thanks

You may have already made a plan but that far North of Fairbanks is probably not the best moose country in Alaska. I think your best chance would be in the boreal forest much further south for shorter distance shots. If you can call you probably have a pretty good chance there from about 10-20 Sept.

Scott KingIt looks to me like the moose gradually move into rut thru September with the love struck full retard happening in the later part of the month. Typically I wait as long as possible to hunt moose as the scenery is nicer, the bugs on the decrease and as the rut progresses the bigger bull get easier to find.
I'm not interested in opening day at all nor am I keen on being out hunting over labor day weekend unless its for ducks.
The Anchorage paper had some really good pictures this fall of some nice bulls that were only thinking with their little head wandering thru traffic, fighting fences, generally just zombies.
Love to chase 'em about then.
