Hunt Booked!!Now need help/advice
Happy fourth of July to everyone.
Took the plunge and booked my dream hunt in the Brooks Range for Dall Sheep, grizzly and Moose!! Very excited but the catch is it is in seven weeks time. Madly chasing flights and permits. So this is what I have so far.

# Non resident Alien Hunting license, paid and printed out.
# Application/ Permit for Temp Import of Firearms and ammo by Nonimmigrant Aliens, in Duplicate... have the form downloaded what is the best option to make sure I can receive it all back in the seven weeks? Do I ring them, email, fax for best results?
# will be in touch with airline to get there appropriate paperwork
# Any other paper work needed to make the whole deal go smoothly ?
# Get tags on arrival in Fairbanks.
# will be spending two nights in Fairbanks on the way in late August 24th & 25th. Suggestions on accommodation for the two nights and one on the return?
# Looking at buying my sleeping bag and probably wet weather gear on arrival in Fairbanks, is the Cabela's Store still there and be open on 25th August?
# Outfitter has supplied gear list but any extra items that those with experience recommend?
# From personal experiences what is the real deal with TSA locks on Rifle cases? Will be flying into LA from AUSTRALIA and on from there?
# What day are the government offices open for business after the Fourth July Weekend?

And other pertinent Info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your help

I don't know about cabelas but sportsmans warehouse should have what you'll need.
Good luck

Right, no Cabela's in Fairbanks, but Sportsman's Warehouse is just as good. Are you flying into Fairbanks direct or stopping in Anchorage?

You might consider posting here with your questions, it is Alaska specific:

and here:

Guys are usually quite helpful. Congratulations on the hunt, truly the experience of a lifetime.

Are you bringing your own ammo? What caliber rifle? These days the shelves are stocked with most common rifle ammunition, so you should be ok if your ammo doesn't make it - with the exception of 22LR ;-)

Aksheephunter, It is a hunt that have wanted to do for ages, just luck that had a couple of cancellations that made it all happen. Hunt ends up being for 19 when combining the two. Makes the travel time from Australia more worthwhile.
See that you are at brooks range, hunt starts on27 august till 14 sept on the south slope what would you consider " normal " weather to be like?
Spencer516 being in Australia we really have nothing like Cabelas or sportsman warehouse so looking forward to seeing inside one instead of just the internet
A7dave, still waiting for conformation from Travel Agent but fly into LA, to Seattle than into Fairbanks.
Will take my 300 win mag, ammo will be hand loads of 180 grain swift sorrocco II
Will have a look at the outdoordirector.

We've stayed at the Sophie Station the last couple years on front and back of our hunts. Was pleased with it......

South slope of the Brooks should be pretty mild, You'll still want to layer up, as the early fall can bring showers, bring a good rain jacket. Last year the north slope got hit with snow for the opener, so your best bet is to prepare for the worst, and hope for the best. If you get into Anchorage check out Barney's sport chalet, they know everything and will gear you up on what you don't have and need. Good luck, enjoy your hunt...

Well we sent Stan off today. He ended up getting a Marmot 0F membrain Neversummer with Downdefender. He is a bigger guy and that bag rocks.
He picked up the rest of his kit and we talked strategy for a while. He is excited and optimistic. I think that he will do very well.

Sincerely,
Thomas
