Where would you apply in SE that you could hunt both bears and wouldn't be ridiculous for a transporter to drop you off or hunt from a Forest Service cabin?

.. Unit 4 for Brown bear .. . You can cross Icy Strait and go to Excursion Inlet to hunt Black bear from Hoonah .... Take a skiff up Port Fredderic to Neka Bay [ NEka] .,.. Run up the Neka River then beach the skiff and look around ,,then just start walkin up a bear trail . If the wind is in your face you will find a bear .. in the fall .....

.If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

Gumboots suggestion is a good one . My son hunts Excursion every year in September and sees lots of Black bears up high eating berries. Only problem is crossing Icy strait that time of year in a small boat ,pick your weather. One other option would be Kake on Kupreanof and then crossing Fredrick Sound and hunting South Admirality herring bay ,Eliza harbor and Pybus bay are all good streams.Again pick your day to make that crossing the end of September can be fickle.

... Plus that time of year , ya gotta shoot a deer or 2 ...., But kill a major predator to help keep things in ballance ..... IME , Icy Strait tends to be mellower than the south end of Admirality can be .. But you still need to carefully pick the wx, for the crossing if in a skiff ..

Unit 1C is where I've seen black bear and brown bear co-habitate. I've seen both species on the same beach on the same day within an hour of each other - on two differenet occasions.

Anywhere between Slocum and Holkham, maybe a bit further south. The only public cabin [Alaska State Parks] in the area is the new Tiger Olsen one in Taku Harbor.

It might be easier to charter a float to the beach.

Thanks for the tips! You guys are welcome at my fire anytime.
