Thank A Vet for Freedom!Favorite Load and Bullet for the 338
I would have to say, that with all the great bullets available to hunters, it is a tuff choice to make.
However, if I were going out after big bears on a hunting trip, I would use those heavier Swift bullets in the 275 grain.
The hunting of smaller big game like deer and caribou up North I would use the flatter shooting 200 grain bullets available like those Nosler's or Barnes TSX.

RayThere is an excellent article of the .338WM in the February issue of Handloader. I just bought bought this gun magazine because a coworker told me about the article. In the article, the author has quite a lot of reloading data, from the 185-grain TSX to the 250-grain A-Frame.
There is another article, in the same magazine, about Redding's T-7 turret press.

madabulaI purchased a very nice Vic Olsen built 338 on a mauser action a few years ago from a friend. His pet load for it was a 250gn Seirra GameKing with 74.5 gr of MRP fed 215 primers and once fired (in that gun) winchester brass. It was a consistant = or - 10fps 2755 fps load that shot sub minute of angle groups.
I ultimately worked up to a moly coated (via tumbling) 250 barnes x using 74.5 grains or MRP all else the same and get 2640 fps performance and similar accuracy.
I shot n killed 15 large game animals w/15 shots with this round.
For light loads I found that a 160 barnes x w/70 gr of IMR 4320 same primers and brass will shoot 3225 fps and consistantly 1.5 inches at 200 yards.
While I haven't had time to try the new triple shock in this gun I love them in all the others. Lower preasure, cleaner and supper performers.
