Kenetrek Boots
I bought these boots a few years ago here on AR used. I have gotten along with them real well and would like an uninsulated pair. I can’t however figure out what they are. I have a bear hunt with a moose tag in my pocket planned for September and want to them ordered so I can get them worn some before the hunt. Can anyone tell me what these are and are the mountain extremes or mountain guides closest to the same?

Those are mountain extreme boots. I had an insulated pair like yours, and now wear an un-insulated pair. Tough to break in, but afterwards they have worked well for me. I like the un-insulated boot and adjust for temperature with socks. Hope that helps.

Yep, older MT Extreme.

Don't forget you can send them in for a resole and upper rebuild. Costs $175 plus shipping, if I recall correctly. They have a form on the website.

The guys at Kenetrek are great. Met Jim many years ago and have been supporting his company since then. These are definitely the best boots bar none on the market today. After 58 years of hunting and probably over 30 different pairs of hunting footware these are the best. In case people don't know these boots are actually made in Italy not in China.
If you watch any of the TV hunting shows you will see they are wearing these boots.
Good luck with your boot selections.

I hunted in so many different types and brands of boots in various parts of the world, and then I found Kenetrek. Never looked back.

Thank you all for the replies. I feel the same as the rest of you about Kenetrek.

I received my new pair of mountain extremes uninsulated about a week ago. I have worn them some already and they feel great. I don’t think break in will be bad at all!

Years ago I bought three pairs in Anchorage when the company was Kenetrek Boots of Montana. I prefer to buy American. When I was home I read the paperwork. Thailand and other imports. I returned them the next day. I truly thought I was buying a US made product. I notice they have dropped the Montana so they may have been called on it as a bit less than truthful. I don't care for many items that are produced overseas and sold in the US for a high markup. If Kenetrek was made in the USA I would be there customer. I do, however, buy overseas if the product is not made here (such as Courteney boots). But I guess I was soured a bit by the use of Montana. I'm sure they are good boots from the positive reviews but I wish the company employed American workers rather than enriching foreigners. I buy US from Cabelas and Bass Pro and avoid China crap.

Most of the products I see in Cabelas are also made overseas mainly China and the Pacific rim.
At least the Kenetreks are made in Italy come pre olive oiled.
Good luck

It's a pretty safe bet to say 90% of the top end leather mountain boots suitable for hunting are Italian in origin. Some from Austria. Only a few custom guys in the US.

Mine say made in Italy. Still not US but probably better quality than China.

I have a pair of Kenetrek boots, the cowboy style for horsemen..Being horseback in sub zero weather is no less than horrible, your feet are in the stirrups and no motion to keep the blood flowing, Kenetrek, cured that problem and they are also wonderful to walk in rough country or in a foot of snow with 13 inch tops I think..They have a spur ridge and for $6.00 you get a pair of spurs that are fitted to the boot, to go with them. Good stuff indeed for the pack in hunter, guide, packer or camp staff...The thick felt inserts are warm in almost any weather and that thick felt is comfortable as can be.

I try to rope as much as possible, and in Twin Falls and this area we have no heated barns and its colder in the barns than outside, feet suffer big time, but My Kenetrek packers fit a stirrup just perfect and I can teamrope in them and never suffer cold feet..

Just returned from a moose hunt in northern BC....totally disregarded the advice to bring waterproof boots and got lucky....it was warm and dry (not great moose hunting weather but I scored anyway!). Not happening again.

Question if I may: I wear a 9 medium normally so what size do I order? Looking at mountain extreme 400.....should I go non-insulated instead? Order size 10 for sock room?

When I brought my pair of mountain extremes I had to go with a half size bigger.

If you will go to their website, they send you or explain to you, the method they use for measuring. I went by what they said and my boots are a full size larger than I normally wear. They fit perfect, and also super comfortable. Get their waterproofing wax and those boots are awesome, just got back from a mountain hunt in pouring rain in New Mexico and my feet were dry as a bone, warm and comfortable! They are great boots

I bought a pair of Mountain Extremes last year.

They are great. I have the worst problem with buying boots/clothes unfitted.

The lady at Kenetrek had me go to a shoe store and have my foot measured by one of thuds foot scale things. I them called her back with measurements. She sent me a pair of boots made as if they had a mold of my foot.

Rockport and Ecco are a couple of shoe companies that had been making good stuff and then sourced out to other countries where quality went South. Ecco were made in Denmark, but now China. Whites Boots are still made in Seattle and I find their quality top notch.

Unfortunately they are owned by a Chinese mega company that has brought up a lot of foot ware manufactures.
