chuck375Gus Lamoureux Kodiak brown bear guide
Hi anyone hunted brown bear with Gus on Kodiak Island? I know he's taken some very good bears but would like to hear from AR members who have hunted with him.
Thanks!
Chuck

458WinLike most threads here, I am not who you are asking but ---- For what it is worth, Gus has been guiding forever and has a sterling reputation and a great concession

AkshooterI've only met him once but he did seem very nice and humble for a guy who was born to be a bear guide.
His Father Frenchy had a very good penninsula area on upper Ugashik lake close to .458's I thought Gus still had that area?
As far as Kodiak I know very little. I think he hunts down on the southwest side around Kaiugnak bay, Kaivak bay. There are a lot of big bears around there I have hunted that area for deer and seen some real good bears.
That side of the island is tall grass if you stay out of the alders and salmonberrys you'll be fine.
Ask him if he still has the Ugashik area. For a guy recovering from hart surgery I would choose the tundra over the tall grass but there are alders there too just keep out.

308SakoI made the mistake of not booking with Gus years ago, and the thief that I did book with went on to become an Outfitter of the year for SCI, still leaves a very bad taste in my mouth regarding SCI, and that thief.

chuck375Sorry to hear, Gus is at the top of my list right now as I work to recover from my heart operation. Hopefully I'll feel well enough by summer to book for a spring hunt.

Chuck
