Grizz at Blk Bear Bait Station

I noticed in Paper that F&G come Spring 2013 will permit the taking of grizz that show up at black bear bait stations with normal restrictions on sows with cubs.

I've never had grizz show up at my barrel, probably due to it's location down low near river; but we see grizz often enough. I bet if you had barrel up higher in elevation, you'd see more grizzly bear.

We have a good bunch working for F&G in my unit. I think there's 4 or 5 GMU's that this will affect. Good going Fish & Game, before the moose are gone.

I think its great. I just read some of the comments on ADN about it. Some folks just do not have a clue.

A lesson in irony

The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing this year the greatest amount of free Meals and Food Stamps ever, to 46 million people.

Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us... "Please Do Not Feed the Animals." Their stated reason for the policy is because "The animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves."

Thus ends today's lesson in irony.

Anybody that has spent any amount of time in rural Alaska, realizes how many bear there are out there. Last Spring, I had 20-25 bear coming into my barrel all day and all night long; they waited in line; and the game camera even convinced me about how many we had around the house.

I have a couple friends who have been mauled. Ask them about bear, ha ha. The one guy was mauled twice over the years and will pull off his shirt, drop his pants and show ya the scars. Brings some relevance to the topic. This guy hates bear with a passion, wants to kill every last one of them. I'd be happy if I could clean them out enough that they stayed away from the house and so some moose calves make it. Already thinking about the hurtin the neighbors and my family are going to put on them this May & June.

Only drawback I see is their size, our interior bear are quite small, but everybody out here luvs eating bear meat just the same.

Put up a 2 man stand and barrel and game camera, you'll have blk bear anywhere you go in Alaska. We live up on the Yukon, bear everywhere. When we lived in MatSu, bear everywhere. I had friends that had bait stations a few miles outta Anch going South; they had a dozen bear a night coming in. Half the fun is just watching them yappin and chatterin at each other before you shoot. Everybody should be doing their part to lower bear populations if ya like eating moose that is.

Actually, my neighbors & my family make sure somebody is in stand once the bear start coming in. People out this way eat bear meat and everybody had fun shooting a bunch of bear last June and helped the moose out we believe.
