Phil,
Informative article in JUL/AUG Sports Afield and that's a very nice rifle in your lap. Is that some of Lon Paul's work?
See you in September

458WinJim, yes that is the 30-06 Lon Built for me and I was using 220 partitions @ 2500 fps -- rather than my normal 200 partitions @ 2700. Couldn't say I noticed a difference.
I don't know who will start out guiding you and Dan this fall but I hope to get with you for at least a few days. Unless you decide to take the 1st 10 footer that walks past.
And I also thought John did a good job on the piece as well. Although Kevin Thomas and Paddy Curtis had good comments - and both have first rate reputations - it sounded like they were against PH's shooting to back folks up but they both stipulated that in thick jesse or with clients who could not go that they would shoot.
What was not said was that most clients in Africa typically arrive close to where they shoot in a vehicle -- while in Alaska many are already at their physical limit when the reach the animal and are often physically unable - or unwilling - to help track it another few miles in thick brush and rugged terrain.
in addition the African PH usually has a team of experienced helpers and trackers while the Alaskan PH is completely on their own - many rugged miles from any help.

Thanks of showing me around the area last week. I bet the hunters are going to have a GREAT time with the bears. Really neat to see how there travel in that part of the country. I wonder if the whale is gone yet?

I haven't been back over that whale but found another skull and backbones on the next beach down.
Plenty of big bears passing by camp this week.
Phil, great points about the difference between Alaska & Africa. Anyone who has packed a green bear hide knows what a few extra steps means.
Trust your fishing has been good.
