69deer40 Mile Air- Pickerel Lake or South Wellsley Lake Area
I'm going out with 40 Mile Air for moose in one of these areas. Has anybody hunted in either of these areas?

ChisanaMoose density is really low in Unit 12.

David FoxTried to book either one of these lake hunts for last season. They were both already taken, so I had to go to a different area. My research on both, though, told me that even though densities were low, the possiblility of a good moose were there. I think South Wellsley Lake has a bit of private ground around it, so parts of the area could be limited. I'm surprised you still have a choice of either lake at this late of date, as 40-Mile Air ususally books up pretty quick. Must be the economy. Knute

ChisanaSure the possibility is there, but why handicap yourself by going to an area with known low densities when you know that better options exist?

MARK H. YOUNGI agree with Chisana. There are areas with excellent moose densities and good transporters to drop you off. Why book where you already know your chances are diminished.

69deerWell, I had asked for some help on this same forum on Jan.9th but the thread got hijacked and I never got much in the way of help. I was actually happy to get a drop off hunt with 40 Mile Air. I have gone with them before and am happy to do it again.

ChisanaI've hunted very close to the specific areas you mention. There aren't a lot of moose around. There are a few bears and a few wolves. What specifically would you like to know? You actually got quite a bit of information given that you asked about a rather out of the way, low productivity moose area.
