Hardcast bullets for bear defence suggestions
I am fairly new to pistol shooting. I am looking for a hardcast bullet for my 44 mag for use in bear defense. Can anyone recommend a good hardcast to reload with.

As well, I have never reloaded for pistol but have reloaded lots of rifle so any tips on reloading hardcast bullets would be appreciated as well.

Thanks

The cast performance and beartooth bullets are both great bullets to reload. I've done quite a bit of reloading with the 300gr gass checked WFN cast performance bullets.

as Tbear mentioned- Marshall Stanton(Beartooth) has some of the most accurate hardcast boolits available. I use them in both my leverguns and 5 handguns.

H110 and Unique are good powders, work up your loads per manual and practice alot! So called bear pistols require you to be a cool and accurate shot-again shoot alot.

Beartooth Bullets are absolutely fantastic. The best hardcast I've ever shot in consistency, accuracy and performance.

I brought a lee 310gr mold about 315 out of wheel weights drop them into a 5 gallon bucket of water from the mold. Gas check and size them to 430. They work very well out of my 44's.

I really don't want to cast anything myself. I find I hardly have enough time these days to reload any rifle rounds let alone trying to make my own cast bullets.

I am looking for a good manufactured bullet. I will look up Beartooth.

Thanks

Since you are new to pistols,I would say that any non-expanding bullet at full steam directed to the brain should do.

Don't expect any pistol to be a reliable STOPPER otherwise.A body hit will cause his death but not soon enough to do you any good.

ray m,

Thanks for the advice. I have a good understanding of bear defence and have been carrying a 40 S&W for defence but have now opted for the 44mag. Makes me feel a little safer.
